The police have had a nightmare in Marseille.  They seemed totally unprepared and incompetent.  UEFA should be asking serious questions of the French plod and FA.

Difference seems to be that these 300 Russian blokes would just fight with the police and cause trouble until they could break away in groups and then reform. They seem to be highly trained and highly organised and at the end of the day just want a fight and the football is secondary. Certainly not the standard pissed up group of lads on a day out and more like a military unit on an exercise, I think we need to recognise that this is vicious violence that not many in this country can relate to from the last 25 years of watching football.

These two know what they're talking about.

we need to go beyond that  and ask questions about UEFA. Madness holding this game in Marseilles, but that's nothing compared to their suggestion that England head to Lille next. These people are mugs of the highest order.

Don't remember trouble like this when we hosted it. I know there were problems but always seems worse abroad. Different police tactics?

I would say so, 2000 was also contrasting both in Holland and Belgium...

Holland were policing sensibly, if someone was getting a bit out of hand they would have a friendly word to calm them down. Belgium, I believe the police went all guns blazing which will provoke the hotheads and the shameful scenes in Charleroi.

The French policing seems to have been very poor, the security worse... how the Russians can smuggle in a flare gun given France have suffered an atrocity only last years is mindblowing.

I got a slight pat down when I entered the stadium in Bordeaux. He felt things in my pocket and said "are those keys". I responded no. And he then just said in you go.

Stewards are pointless from what I can see.

Embarrassing on all fronts. None of these issues in South Africa or Brazil because the people going over wanted to enjoy the experience and watch football. Having France so close and cheap to be at is just a cheap piss up holiday for fans who would rather smash up people or objects rather than enjoy the experience. How many are banned in UK stadiums?

Not really all security services have big problems looking out for potential terrorist acts and then they have to deal with ****wits on either side causing problems.  Shows the complete brain dead mongs That inhabit this planet.

I am not going to a portion blame on either side as there is good and bad everywhere. But when people know this is a huge target for possibly much worse why make it so difficult for the security services.

Utter utter retards

Then it shouldn't be held in France if they can't cope.  Everyone knew this game would kick off, except it seems for the French plod.

I would imagine most of those banned from domestic football are also banned from travelling out abroad to france.

One of the big shames of this shambolic tournament has been how quickly so many people have turned against the poor buggers who've gone out there.

You have just ratified my post about there being many mongs in the world.

It's not anything to do with being able to cope. It's about normal human beings understanding how to act. I now many beer swilling retards have trouble understanding that in normal circumstances, but you would have thought there would have been a flicker of light in their tiny little brains that this may not be the place and Time to do it.

To blame the police and security forces for not controlling fans in such a time of terror in France is laughable.

You may have a point in where it is being hosted. But any place in Europe is a a target now. And any countries security forces would have a hard time policing it.  It's Times like these when people have to be responsible for their own actions

Its not at all, the security services should've had the intel on the Russian hooligans... these weren't a load of drunken yobs causing mischief. These were highly organised gangs who were drilled like a military unit. The job of security services is to protect people not just from terrorism but from other threats to

They just made the point on BBC that this statement only covers trouble inside the stadium. UEFA have no power to impose sanctions on any team as a result of anything that happens outside which does make sense to be fair to them. Fair play to Rio as well for saying that he hopes the right intelligence is being acted on and it`s not just a knee jerk `blame England` reaction. Interesting to hear from Jermaine Jenas too who was there in the middle of it all.

I think there are something like 1000+ England fans who have had their passports taken away for the duration. As for Russia, they haven`t stopped anyone who wants to from travelling which tells you a lot IMO.

TBF the media do seem to be slowly coming round to actually reporting what did happen rather than what they assumed had.

I'm staggered that just weeks after the Hillsborough inquest, the press revert to stereotypes and speculation. It's equally confounding that so many people are rushing to condemn our own fans without bothering to sniff out the facts. It's an absolute joke.

Just got back from Marseille. A lot of the posts on this thread are a joke. You weren't therel experincing  attacks on the English fans. Not hooligans but fans.  The French, the Russians and the police, all having a major go at anyone and everyone.

Your walking down down the road to the ground, next thing 30 Russians come running at you, you notice they have knives and hammers, you look to the police and they fire tear gas at you.. You look around and all you see are Englishman all thinking the same thing,  If you go that way you might get stabbed or slashed if you go the other way You are going to get hit with tear gas and batons and repeatedly.

It  was brutal yesterday.  nothing I have ever seen in 30 years of watching football. It was totally carnage. But not caused by the English like a lot of you seem to sadly believe.

You shouldn't comment on what the media is feeding you unles you were there and in it last night as you haven't got a clue what it was like. Not a clue.

As I understand it the Russians (with gum shields and MMA style gloves) managed to get past the segregation barrier , which was two rows of seats, what's that a yard or so?? THAT has to be squarely put on the organisers  and police , with the intelligence they must have had about the Russians.

There was trouble in Nice ( the Irish are not renowned for trouble ), trouble in Paris both started by the French apparently , how are England fans going to be blamed for those ??

Now UEFA have threatened to ban Russia and England ??? I couldn't see any of the problems IN the stadium caused by the English, and that is all they have control over just an easy scapegoat and one our own media enjoys.

The segregation was a strip of material with volunteer stewards standing there. No wonder they disappeared the second Russia charged.

Not all of us on here believe the media lies mate, it`s only a few and they`ve been shouted down by the majority. With all the film and independent reports out there there appears to be no doubt what went on and glad you got out safe.

The question is though, what will be done to stop it happening again?

According to the bloke from Channel 4 news (on Stan Collymore's twitter periscope vid) the Russians came in via Switzerland and hired cars, therefore avoiding detection

Wilksi,

Glad you are back safe and sound. Nightmare by the sounds of it.

Think most people have seen in the last few hours how bad it has been and that innocent fans are being attacked just trying to follow their national team.

A few questions for those suggesting England should be kicked out:

Should Russia be kicked out after their fans' behaviour yesterday?

Should Ukraine be kicked out after today's events in Lille?

Should Germany be kicked out after today's events in Lille?

Should Northern Ireland be kicked out after last night's skirmishes in Nice?

Should Poland be kicked out after last night's skirmishes in Nice?

I do however think the British police would have it under wraps after hours of problems. This has gone on for nearly three day. Back streets would be closed with the huge metal gates, and police would contain it. The French seemed surprised at this, and didn't have a clue how to handle it.

I think the British police would have done better at dealing with the English.

The British police would have crapped themselves over the Russians, most police at football couldnt do much in the face of the kind of violence these people are capable of (think 300 MMA specialists).

you can build barriers all you want but they would take them down/smash them up. The only way to deal with them is snatch squads and a lot of jail cells but its difficult because you cant infiltrate these groups - they dont go out in public and look to meet up with old friends, they are very close nit groups that dont respond well to outsiders.
