Exactly , from what I've heard they started a lot of it.

Did you see Stan Collymore's periscope? He said there were about 300 French youths who congregated in a square and on 'whistles' charged off after English fans (while the police stood by…allegedly)

A few questions for those suggesting England should be kicked out:

Should Russia be kicked out after their fans' behaviour yesterday?

Should Ukraine be kicked out after today's events in Lille?

Should Germany be kicked out after today's events in Lille?

Should Northern Ireland be kicked out after last night's skirmishes in Nice?

Should Poland be kicked out after last night's skirmishes in Nice?

Everyone should be kicked out and Iceland win by default ;)

In all seriousness, its a witch hunt with England... its all our fault and according to one poster and his ludicrous comments, good natured fans who are out there supporting England have to bare the brunt of it, absolute shameful comments IMO.

Some have seen the video evidence of these hardcore hooligans attacking fans while they are trying to get away and still blame our own fans... its just crazy

I think the British police would have done better at dealing with the English.

The British police would have crapped themselves over the Russians, most police at football couldnt do much in the face of the kind of violence these people are capable of (think 300 MMA specialists).

you can build barriers all you want but they would take them down/smash them up. The only way to deal with them is snatch squads and a lot of jail cells but its difficult because you cant infiltrate these groups - they dont go out in public and look to meet up with old friends, they are very close nit groups that dont respond well to outsiders.

what a load of bollocks.....british ob would have loved it......plus the Russians would have got smashed 30 years ago

It ain't difficult.

Just close off the ends of the street. Then, everyone in the street is arrested. Either use CCVT, nationality/intelligence/sus. to weed out the trouble makers or just chuck 'em all out the country with either passports removed or re-arrest for re-entry. For the French, just chuck them in jail for the duration of the competition.

We did this with the Cardiff fans in the 70's, also happened with England on several occasions.

what about the French?

Yep, kick them out too.  I need to quickly reassess who I'm betting on to win this.  Which country has the best behaved fans?

England's problem is that our fans have a bad reputation (earned in previous years), and as a result other country's hooligans seek out our fans. They don't care that most of our hooligan element have to give up their passports/are now old and fat, and just attack genuine football fans instead.  No doubt they go home bragging about how they beat the English!

The police need to step up too. The Russian behavior in the stadium should have been met with a huge police force. And how they get flares etc in when everyone entering the stadium is meant to be properly searched as potential terrorists is frightening, if I was in ISIS I would see that and think it worth a try after all.

I saw a vid of riot police charging at fans, who seemed to be just standing there, filming it…looking a bit bewildered.

It's so hard to gauge the exact circumstances from any film/photograph, especially when it is accompanied with media spin.

True but whats has happened is the eyewitness accounts from fans including Wilksi and KITR (here) plus the many on Social Media which have confirmed the Russian hooligans going on a full rampage and that is without the media spin.

Disagree. It's not even force required to stop it, just good organisation, which the French police are clearly lacing in hugely. With good organisation you can pick them off.

And have you seen those barriers, no one is able to move them.

Yes, I expect the media are well pissed off that people are able to produce evidence of their own to dismiss the (Sun, Mail) media's spin. The Russian media's reports are shocking.

Is not UEFA sending out totally the wrong message to England fans? Their  durastriction is the stadium. From what I saw, the English fans behaved impeccably.

Clearly, UEFA want us to throw back missiles, let off our own flares, fight back when attacked.

Pretty unhelpful statement in my view.

For those England fans misbehaving outside, my previous posting covers that. Could easily have surrounded the couple of bars on Friday and dealt with those numpties.

no they wouldnt. You look at all the girlies and first year graduates that put on the riot gear these days. These Russians all clad in ACAB see fighting police dressed as robbocop as a sport - thats not something that the police have had to deal with in this country.

your right though in this country the authorities would have done something long before now to deal with it but Russia has bigger problems.

Can you imagine a mob of 300 blokes not being wrapped up by the police here?

Yeah I find it odd that the extra 70,000 police, 10,000 military personnel and extra security guards and cctv didn't spot the 25 to 30 Russian mob all dressed the same in black. Granted not all the extra police are in Marseille but they have a significant force out there.

The segregation was a strip of material with volunteer stewards standing there. No wonder they disappeared the second Russia charged.

It hasn't been reported as such, but I'm 99% certain from watching the game and looking through numerous photos, that the area attacked by the Russians was more of a neutral area.

There seemed to be French people in that area as well as England fans.

The whole situation reminds me so much of Heysel in 86, except this stadium was fit for purpose and no fans got trapped or crushed.

I saw one at Wolves a few years ago. They shook it for about 15 minutes and one of the panels seperated and there fans got through.

Just got back from Marseille. A lot of the posts on this thread are a joke. You weren't therel experincing  attacks on the English fans. Not hooligans but fans.  The French, the Russians and the police, all having a major go at anyone and everyone.

Your walking down down the road to the ground, next thing 30 Russians come running at you, you notice they have knives and hammers, you look to the police and they fire tear gas at you.. You look around and all you see are Englishman all thinking the same thing,  If you go that way you might get stabbed or slashed if you go the other way You are going to get hit with tear gas and batons and repeatedly.

It  was brutal yesterday.  nothing I have ever seen in 30 years of watching football. It was totally carnage. But not caused by the English like a lot of you seem to sadly believe.

You shouldn't comment on what the media is feeding you unles you were there and in it last night as you haven't got a clue what it was like. Not a clue.

Glad you are safe and able to write this post. At the same time I think that last para is damn harsh. Sure take what you are told with 'a pinch' but there are a few thousand with first hand experiences and millions watching; seeing what preceded the last two nights it's no wonder some may jump to conclusions - albeit acknowledging that in itself is media fuelled.

It does seem that last night was Russian-fuelled but in the meantime it's a bit like the boy who cried wolf. Whilst English fans in the immediate aftermath may have been vilified I will not accept that the reputation that they have forged for themselves; over years and continually, means they should feel wholly scapegoated. Far from it. It's understandable that many may immediately report about Engkish trouble; it's lamentable that there is any trouble, it is appreciable that the English may not have fuelled it, it is understandable why initially (and without full understanding) many thought in respect of the English 'here we go again'.

I may be wrong, but if there are a few in the preceding evening chucking chairs and bottles about don't feel victimised when the wrong conclusions are reached and soon after corrected.

The media was soon corrected. Jumping to conclusions is an effect of the social media world, jumping to a conclusion against English fans, contrary to the facts immediately after is appreciable, albeit regretful.

Putting that to one side the firing of a flare in to a stand of people is possibly the most disgraceful thing I could have imagined between football fans. To me, that should be immediate exclusion or preferably rescinding the awarding of the World Cup. If there was at least a lead or naming off a perpetrator I'd temper my view. I know if I saw a BCFC fan do that Id be singing like a canary to get him locked up.

It was the netural area. The England home end was at the other end of the pitch. The flare the Russians shot at England was also a netural area.

The fact the railings were only 5 feet high helped there not be more serious injures by the rush.

England have a reputation. Your right.

But from what I have heard and seen first hand, none of the issues would have happened on previous nights if the police really didn't want it to, and would have stopped the large amounts of French gangs, attack the English then slip back behind the police lines and let them take over.

Friday night, around 2am in the old port, no trouble no singing no shouting just a few dozen England fans in a couple of bars, police didn't say a word to them and just deployed tear gas to get them to leave. These weren't "hooligans" just normal England fans including husbands and wives in their 60's.

I honestly believe if it had been British police out their on the previous nights there wouldn't have been the issues we have seen.

I'm not condoning it by any stretch just saying how I saw it. The backlash we the England fans were getting before today by the English media was unjust by a county mile.

Glad you're back safe . Obviously some have been seriously injured. People just supporting there country. Shocking. But Wat has really pissed me off today is the amount of people so quickly to condemn England fans without knowing any real facts . And the people condemning them are mostly English. I read Gary linekers comments he was just so quick to get on social media and blame England fans . It's obvious England abroad now will be targets because of our history . I'm not saying all England fans are innocent. But normal fans getting attacked with all sorts of weapons by all sorts of different groups. Well I'm glad I stayed home. And I think this will happen to England fans more and more . Sad times . Russia 2018 **** that

That's what pissed me off the most. The blatant blaming of all England fans last night on social media, by journalists, Engliand fans and on here by some.

The Wales game on Thursday "could" be worse, bearing in mind Russia play Slovakia only 24 hours earlier and are only 25 miles away. We have seen the lengths the Russians will go to, I wouldn't put it past them having another go on Thursday.

even from here you can see that a large number of the Russians are built like bodybuilders - check out the pictures. This was highly organized and clearly targeted. I wouldn't put it past the Russians authorities to 'support' these nutters. Hopefully a few will get pulled by the police and maybe we will find out more.

But it isn't one or two - take a look at the footage and pics - they are all like that.

They have a plan.

Exactly this.

Sound like their highly organised athletic,  militia styled hooligans.

Obviously living in the dark past ( like our football culture in the 70-80's).

There staking their claim to be the next hardline international hooligan fighting front.

They (stupidly) believe they must take the English crown. Sending a message to "Come and get us in 2018 England!".

People on here have said the police in France are offering no protection against these thugs.

If we qualify for the World Cup in Russia our supporters will be left out to dry by the authorities.  Potential blood bath I fear.

As a few have already said. I would stay at home rather than go to Russia to watch England in 2018!
