Joe Sims interview with JL

Dastardly and Muttley

JL says he was surprised that the betting list and how far away it is from what they are looking it, followed by "That says to me we haven't got our message out there"

JS moves on to next question ... ffs that was a key opportunity for JL to be able to get his message out there and it is just glossed over.

This had potential but it is very frustrating

Odd, isn’t it?

I would have thought a heavily edited, 2 minute, in house video where the questions sounded like they came from CBeebies would have made it really obvious?

Shocking that the bookies didn’t realise what they wanted from an inarticulate, bumbling fool.

Controlling the narrative yet still failing to control the narrative is an impressive skillset in fairness

Perhaps Johnson should’ve done that more, we usually came back after international breaks playing abysmally. I think @Olé once wrote a thread on it.

Like Fleming said, I don’t believe many of the injuries occurred out of games did they?

Anyone know if they played the interview in full or did they play clips throughout the show?

In one of Nigel Pearson's interviews, he clearly said all the injuries were match related bar one.

Will listen later, can anyone summarise anything vaguely interesting or controversial that we haven't already heard before?!

The team was expected to be doing better by this stage

Players not prepared to their optimum in training and given too much time off in international breaks

List of candidates being touted in media miles off reality

Interviews being lead by JL and BT

Accepted  communication with fans should be better

Social media platforms not as useful as they used to be for communicating with fans

All efforts being made to get to Prem and then to stay there

Haven't listened to it all, however a point was raised regarding replacing/appointing another CEO.

The answer is that it's Tinnions new role and having Gavin Marshal insitu, we don't need one.

I'd be interested to know if those two have experience in negotiating deals with players agents, and if so who's going to be dealing with any new perspective signing.

Contracts these days are a minefield.

Maybe they use outside specialist solicitors to oversee these contracts.

Reading between the lines...Tins does the selling of club to footballer, Marshall deals with Agent!!!

JL also admits communication with fans is poor and has dropped off since Gould left. Admits it needs rectifying. Admits Club need to tell fans more information as to what they are doing.

I wonder who will be charged with doing that job.

Can anyone clarify from either of JL's interviews whether he was actually asked why the club didn't reinvest any of the Scott money into the playing squad?

No doubt, he could have fallen back on the "We already have a top 10 budget " nonsense, but it would have been good at least to give him the opportunity to explain what happened to the Plan A and Plan B transfer policy that NP spoke about in the summer.

Many thanks👍

Yes he does get asked the question directly by simms

I just listened to the full interview

I have never ever been a supporter of the Lansdown's and never will be, however

Apart from the absolute bullshit about budgets and playing squads I thought the info he provided wasn't bad. If they would have communicated up front it would have abated some of the hysteria they are rightfully getting now

As he said the proof has to be in the pudding, so don't let something as basic as pro active communication (not talking up front about sacking someone) trip you up

I'll still be happier if they'd sell up

Two things that have worried me

- “with our structure, we don’t need a CEO”

- “we have the ability to be able to outperform our budget“

1. There isn’t a structure or set up in the world that would lead you to not need someone as CEO or overall leader. Marshall being CEO of the Bristol Sport, so “i guess by default is CEO of football when needed” is absolutely crazy.

2. There isn’t a football club in the world thinking “really wish we would be underperforming vs our budget”.

They seemingly expected, or are craving the narrative of, to be guaranteed promotion in Nige’s final year (this season). To still think that without putting any consideration around the last 2 transfer windows, and the fact the bloke had to work under 4 different CEOs in 2.5 years, is absolutely fairyland stuff.

To draft the nuts and bolts yes they probably do. I have colleagues who do the player and manager contracts for a number of EFL, PL, and Scottish clubs. I'd be pretty shocked if a club of our size was doing the actual drafting in house... especially as to my knowledge we don't have any in house lawyers.

It would also be pretty stupid of us as the players and their agents will use solicitors.

But the legal drafting is separate from the negotiation of the commercial terms. That commercial aspect won't be done by the lawyers.

I found the comms comments, and there were a lot of them, shots definitely fired at Dave Barton. I wonder if we could be looking at another departure.

That stood out for me too. Something along the lines of there is a CEO of Bristol Sport & him and Tinnion can fudge it.

He's knows the Comm's have ben bad for 12 months, they've done nothing about it.

Explained the plan was spend early expecting Scott to go late in the Window. That's fine, and if they had explained that earlier it would have stopped some of the vitriol . Also ( remembering some of Pearsons Pressers) it would have been handy telling Nige.

I thought that was Jon's best interview so far , much more relaxed. But it is a very low bar TBH.

I don't think we will ever get a hard hitting 'Paxman' type interview, friendly Press release with a local 'Celeb' is as good as we can expect. I go back to the above, if he's nervous about doing the inhouse ones, no way he sets himself up for a grilling.

He said that they obviously haven't gotten the message out there about what we are looking for in a head coach and even with a 42 minute interview I am still none the wiser as to what we are looking for.

That was his opportunity to get the message out there and by not saying anything about what we are looking for, all it's done is show me that they don't know what they are looking for.

By now you'd expect it to be done to a few candidates so they should clearly know what they are looking for. That was his chance to tell us and he blew it.

For me, the business we did in the summer was by using the money we had got from Semenyo? So I really don't buy this bs about how they pre-spent money from the Alex Scott fee.

Top 10 budget I doubt.

Top 10 revenue I can believe, but top 10 budget I doubt.

We still had to off set the lose to appease FFP.

I think we would have been tight to the wire with FFP had Scott stayed, post a sale well clear.

The accounts for last season will reveal more when they're out.

Adam Nagy taken out of context - I think the quote was young hungry/Hungary players tbf.

I am on the fence with JL, from what I’ve seen he strikes me as someone who wants the best for the club, and has had to learn on the job, maybe now getting more savvy I hope. The only thing that came out of it of real interest for me was the 9/10 days given off after each international break, and a concern we were detraining. That’s quite a statement.

More comms needed in the future, but hopefully this is the start.

Just finished watching too. As a format it did work ok. JL seemed relaxed and it was interesting to hear him give longer form answers.

Still plenty in there that stinks of BS, and going forward, the structure of the club with no CEO and Tinnion effectively heading up the entire football operation is worrying.

But if they are at least able to communicate more like this, then that would be a start.

Completely agree with the communication bit here for sure, it was quite refreshing this.

Going to go against the grain a little bit, and as someone who's still fuming at this decision, I think it was a decent interview. I think Jon came across well and he's absolutely right in that he can't say everything about every decision that is made. People can say all they like about his competence, I actually have no personal experience on that, but the bloke seems decent and I think some of the personal insults have been ridiculously far over the line. If he is ultimately our chairman and consequently a bit of a puppet for his dad, that doesn't warrant some of the shit he gets.

That said, all this does for me is reinforce the fact that they made a terrible decision on this - really poor and that they didn't really have their finger on the pulse in the way they thought they did. I still have very little confidence in their ability to run this club and I'd still back a u-turn on this, ridiculous as it would be and as impossible as it is.
