Went to Noahs the other night. Missus had Fish and chips which was delicious (best, she reckoned, she had eaten other than up in Whitby), and i had a Monkfish tail on the bone. My god - so delicious and fresh. Just grilled with a garlicy pesto butter.

Hope they were not affected by the high tide yesterday. Really good joint and good value. 80 quid for 2 with drinks and nibbles/mains.

Thought I'd mention it on here, the App ' First Table'...as many of the restaurants mentioned on here use it. Basically you get to book the first table available in the evening. Often between 5 and 6. You get 50% off your food bill. Used it a few times, as was apprehensive at first, however the food and service is as good as the rest of service.

If you get a 6 reservation, by the time you've ordered and had drinks, it's approx 7.

I much prefer eating in the UK earlier.

Worth giving it a go if you've never heard of it.

The Ox is on it as well ❤️❤️❤️

Think Noah's has to be an early contender for OTIB's restaurant of the year 🤣

I've been invited to the soft opening of this new Mexican place at the weekend. It's where Burger Joint used to be.

For me, fresh well sourced sea food always wins and they are not pretentious.

Look forward to your review Kid

Went to Mowgli’s today for lunch. Had read mixed reviews on Tripadvisor but tend not to pay much attention unless they’re all really bad. We had the monkey wrap, the Himalayan cheese toast, the treacle tamarind fries which were fantastic, lamb chops, butter chicken and the prawn curry with some roti’s and rice. All in all, was really tasty. Lovely venue. Both curry’s were really tasty. It’s all small plates so you need to order 3 or 4 dishes each and we shared everything. Very instagram friendly venue and food presentation but enjoyable food too. Probably won’t rush back as there’s plenty of other restaurants on the list currently but did say to the wife that if we came back I could easily and happily pick 6 or 7 completely different dishes as the menu nearly all sounds great. Worth a visit.

Has anyone tried Bandook in Wapping Wharf? Another Indian street food place with great reviews. Will visit there before I’d go back to Mowgli.

I did think after posting that someone might question the monkey wrap 😂

Monkey Wrap

An open roti wrap with succulent, charred tandoori chicken, jewels of pomegranate, spinach, mint & that crazy rainbow of homespun Mowgli chutneys.

How did Condesa go mate?

Bloody babysitter cancelled last minute so didn't make it! I actually spoke to the owners of Pasture on Sunday though, and they went and said it was fantastic. So, I'm going to have to make an effort to go in the next couple of weeks.

That’s a shame. If Sam from pasture rates it then it must be decent. Got a roast booked in at pasture in a couple of weeks. Can’t wait.

littleFrench is my favourite restaurant in Bristol. Been 4 times. Love it in there. Enjoy.

He does. Said the decor was lovely too, and the margaritas!

Best dishes at LF? I've heard good things about the chocolate mousse!

The chocolate mousse is fantastic. The crème brûlée too. I’ve had cote de boeuf, trout, lamb and hake in there. They change the menu quite a bit. None of them disappointed. The aligot and pomme frites are great sides. Usually have the scallops to start as they never disappoint. The wine list is great also. Be interesting to hear your thoughts once you’ve been.

Have all the starters and then share chicken and chips. Wash it down with Libertine followed by the PicPoul and Immortelle. Delicious.

How was littleFrench @Kid in the Riot ?

Really good thanks. Could not fault it at all, in fact.

Group of 6 of us and enjoyed excellent service throughout the meal. Delicious Jersey rock oysters (with the Picpoul again!) Followed by the scallops in a beautiful buttery Source. The best course for me probably was the ox cheek, that was perfectly tender (pic below). Then finished with the chocolate mousse which lived up to the hype!

Also has sides of the hispi cabbage and the aligot, the latter of which is unlike anything I've had before really.

Maybe my only complaint is that by the end I was stuffed, an inevitable consequence of so much rich and hearty food. Along with a fair bit of vin...

All the food was beautifully presented too, which isn't always the case with traditional cooking.

When a place appears on a show called "Remarkable Places to Eat" you kind of fear the worst, but whilst "remarkable" is a very high bar to reach, it was certainly an excellent venue showcasing some very talented chefs and high quality ingredients.

Glad you enjoyed it. I’ve certainly never left there feeling I could eat a bit more. We usually end up with lots of aligot left over as everybody usually wants 1 to themselves even though the waiting staff do suggest that 1 between 2 is plenty 😂. Their little shop & pantry at the end of the road does some pretty fantastic sandwiches, burgers, cakes and pastries too which I’d definitely recommend if in the area and peckish.

How about the presentation of this Jerusalem artichoke too? Stunning.

IMG-20240320-WA0007.jpg

The artichoke looks absolutely wonderful, as did the ox cheeks in your previous post, both very well presented.

Over here, Jerusalem artichokes are called topinambour, are frequently eaten mashed (like potatoes) and look like this.

off to Sal Grosso in Lisbon tonight. Have to say, here and Porto have been eye opening in terms of quality of food at such insanely low prices.

Bit late now, but went to Ponto Final in Lisbon last year. It's got very popular from TikTok (it is on a little jetty on the river, insane view), and the food was outstanding and so cheap! (They could of definitely charged a premium).

Also went to a restaurant called Blind in Porto, one of the best meals I've ever had. Experiential food. Incredible and again well priced.

Lisbon is high on my list purely down to the series “Somebody Feed Phil” on Netflix. He also ate at Ponto Final. Looked incredible. If you’ve not seen the series, at least have a look for that Lisbon episode. Certainly looks like a foodies heaven over there

I'd recommend doing Lisbon first, then getting the train to Porto like we did. We then took a minibus out to the Douro region for wine and port tasting. Fantastic day!
