Weird I never knew rovers first entry to league 2 (old division 3) came in 2000! I started watching in 98 but always assumed they had been bouncing around down there for years before.

Nope. Up until then they’d been the most mediocre team in English football - only ever being in the middle two divisions in about 80 years

Now they’ve moved from being mediocre to shit. And it’s glorious.

Jesus Christ. Someone’s getting chirpy because they’ve beaten Accrington Stanley at home.

    ****ing hell.

He could literally see Ashton Gate from his vantage point when he thought that.

Its like crapping your pants next to the Chanel factory and thinking “yeah, I could be the best smelling thing around here”

Sounds as if Sunderland are starting to play with 'identity' and passing the ball quickly and playing attacking football.

Which is what we were treated to that season when we had a strong League Cup run.

Then the random transfer policy kicked in fully coupled with a new tombola and everything started going to shit.

I believe at Sunderland LJs one signing has been Winchester from FGR, who he had at Oldham - so clearly his decision.

What I’m wondering is whether he will keep control of transfer policy.

This may clarify the LJ/MA debate..

  4. Few thoughts:

    - The changed dimensions to account for physicality is an interesting debate. What stuck out to me last night was not the technique being poorer as it wasn’t (The first and third goal were as good as the men have scored), but that both teams struggled to clear the ball because the purchase they got on clearances wasn’t good enough. That meant a lot of scrambling and less chance to use the technique!

    - Salmon. She’s a bit good. IIRC we had Lauren Hemp who went to Man City and I don’t believe has kicked on, so hoping that ES sees that and stays with City, if they stay up

    - A thorny issue, but the team are much improved form wise under Beard. The logical thing to do would be to try and secure him full time, but disposing of Oxtoby on Mat Leave is a very difficult scenario to manage..,

All in all, a good way to spend a Monday night - entertaining, good goals, and a city win.

I didn’t even get a mile in - something is not quite right at the moment. And it was freezing out there and had to walk back ?

Went out this morning and with wind chill at the start it was -9. That’s just basically insane. I intentionally went a route where if I got too cold I could double back earlier, but intent was to time it so I ran door to door, as the walk is what’s the killer at present.

Other half’s got loads of aches as well at the moment - I think it might be down to the weather in large part as you’re effectively trying to run a muscle that is frozen stiff. That can’t be good.

  6. I went out just before 8am. Phone suggested it was -1 but felt -5. Took 3k to get warmed up and feeling in hands, ok once running but as soon as you stop and not running on adrenaline any more...jeez that’s cold!

Interesting to see you mention Bridge Valley Road SuperDzieck. I always considered that to be a super hard climb - and it is.
I thought I’d have a quick look at the climbs we all did this weekend.

    Bridge Valley - 0.7k Grade 7.6%
    Somerset Monument - 0.7k Grade 8.3%
    Old London Road - 0.7k Grade 10.7%

I knew the other 2 were biggies but had no idea they were beastlier than Bridge Valley.

You were right Rob K - she’s a bloody brute!

To think @mozodid this blighter on Xmas day, 15k into a half!!! Maaaan!!

I absolutely hated going up there this morning and yet I absolutely loved it too. And I absolutely never want to do it again but know I will love it when I do ?

That last bits the absolute truth! I’ve been sat pondering when I do today’s route again, as I’m now kicking myself for not extending into the village and Petty France!

The great thing about running is that you see somewhere and think “Not been there, is it strikeable?” And you go. Seen so much more of the area (and the world, pre lockdown) than I ever would before I started this rubbish!

@mozo I mentioned I was keen to run up that brutal hill climb you did on Xmas day.
Managed it this morning. Wow!! That was tough.
Eased myself into the run to start climbing at 1k and got to the top by the golf club at 5k. That 4k distance was quite literally vertical for about 2.5k and only levelled off temporarily a couple of times.
    An absolute beast!!
Was nice turning at the top and running back down it though ?

I think mental hill climbing was the order of the day today. Thought to myself “Not been to Somerset monument before, might run there”. Vertical.

The stupid thing was that it was 10k into a HM so after killing my legs I had another 10 to go. Currently unable to move on the sofa!

  9. Well, I ended up rounding off the year with a HM. Kind of Withnail-ish in that it was supposed to be 10k but I decided that my planned route would be too lethal so had to extend!

Finished the year on 4,119km. A few five a sides and easier paced walks in that but reckon I met my target of average 10k run a day and there’s at least 3660 km of pure runs/jogs in there.

Love to get up to marathon next year dependent on time available - not always easy with kids to get out for longer trots.

    Congrats all and HNY!
