  1. Does anyone know how many of the players who got them promoted are still in the team?  I'm assuming not many at all.  I know it's a huge step up but there is/was no logic in recruiting so many players and losing the whole identity of the team that gained promotion by not at least giving the majority a chance to show what they can do.  I can't imagine Cooper was happy really as he's in effect starting again with a new team, having to deal with his old team being pissed off they arnt playing and all I'd guess on less £££ than the new signings, a complete moral disaster.  If they stay up it will be a miracle

These England games on Friday evening and Monday evening is it done on purpose?

If you have had a long day at work(monday),do you really want to travel to London for an uninspiring match even if you have got match day tickets

Considering its also LIVE on Channel 4.

Why can't these games be Thursday/Sunday(3pm?) or Saturday(3pm?)/Tuesday

You want England games to be shown on Thursday or Tuesday afternoons at 3pm??? With all due respect, what are you talking about???

It's rein, don't worry I got an admonishment from a couple of posters for exactly the same mistake. :)

Personally I blame the people who invented the English language and their utter laziness by using the same words for different things just spelled differently, they should have worked harder to find unique words for everything, very poor.

Really delighted for Tommy. But that just seems to be ensuring a quicker  route away from city

When more and more of our players are attracting attention from other clubs then that means we are doing something right, it's when nobody wants your players that you have a problem!

I like 5, but number 3 is classic. Just needs Benny Hill music over the top of it!!

To be fair the saggies only got 2 of those goals because the goalkeeper got bored and thought he'd go for a run around the pitch, so 6-3 actually flattered them!

    Yeh 3 is brilliant ??

  6. When I was 13/14 I did work experience as Ashton Gate working in the ticket office basically.  One day a female reporter came to interview the manager who at that time was Russell Osman.  They asked me to go and tell Russell that the reporter was there to see him.  I was very shy at that age but took up the challenge!  I knocked on his door and said there was a reporter there to see him, and Russell replied with "is she fit!".  I didn't know what to say and scuttled out!  Not sure he would get away with that comment now!

Naismith 6 A vital player in many attacking and set piece phases but a liability at other times - a risk reward player

I get the Risk and Reward comment, but for the first goal it had nothing to do with Naismith trying to get a move going by being adventurous, he tried to control a ball he was never going to control instead of clearing it, that’s an error.

The second goal could fall into the risk and reward bracket, but from previous matches there have been, for me, basic errors that were nothing to do with attacking, and all to do with basic defending.  I really hope he sorts it out obviously

This season has been great so far.

Semenyo is our biggest financial asset and I was delighted we were able to keep him.He has been coming back from injury but now is fully fit.He is scoring great goals.Another last night and all from the bench.

I think it’s time for him to start.Kane,Salah,Haarland etc don’t come on as impact players and I believe Semenyo is our best striker (although Conway has done well this year).

Rather than him chipping in with late goals ,with him starting we could be well on top by the break.

I truly believe we have a shout at promotion this year.Norwich will be right up there and we outplayed them for considerable lengths of time last night despite gifting them a two goal lead.

I know the defence needs to tighten up ,but believe starting Semenyo is also part of the puzzle.

Anyway we are 4-1 for the win at Burnley on Saturday, got to be worth a small punt.

    Loving the football again.

You can’t drop Conway he’s scoring for fun, can you drop Wells when he’s such a good foil for Conway?  Who would be a manager!

I’ve got very similar memories, @spudski. My interest started a bit earlier, after watching Roma play at Wrexham! But there’s no doubt those Calcio Italia years were when Italian football reached its heights - Serie A was the equivalent of the PL then in terms of attracting the worlds top players.

And like you, Lazio is the team I follow most - although that was more down to meeting a Lazio fan who’s become a family friend since, and realising the error of liking Roma! As you say, the Rome derbys are something else. I was lucky enough to get to the one when Gasgoine played in his first derby - when he scored that late equaliser we finished up about 25 metres from our original seats! The shows that the fans put on before those games are incredible and must take weeks of planning. Conversely, the last derby I went to was when both sets of fans were on strike! And (unlike on here where people say they’re never going to the Gate again while xxx is there etc) in Italy they really do it, and for a whole season. There was a crowd of about 20,000 and few fans in the Curve watched in complete silence!

For a few years we’d stop off in a place called Asti on the way home from holiday. We went to the Juventus Club Asti to see if we could buy tickets for the match, and what we got was a ticket that included the coach journey from Asti to and from the game. So we ended up with seats just behind the “Fighters Asti” with their banners and big drums! They were a great bunch, so friendly and welcoming of this odd English couple travelling with them - and even more remarkable as it wasn’t all that long after Heysel.

I’ve had some fabulous times and seen some fabulous players - Gullit, Van Basten and Riikjard playing together for Milan at the San Siro springs to mind. And not forgetting sitting behind Channel 4s James Richardson at Piacenza v Juve once!

I was at Lazio v Verona yesterday. Not the greatest quality, bot helped by a poor pitch the Olimpico, but an exciting game that wasn’t as comfortable for Lazio as it sounds. A certain Milan Djuric was on the bench for Verona but didn’t get on sadly. And Lazio have a midfielder Marcos Antonio, who’s a good 2inches shorter that Jay Dasilva!

I’ve bought some T Shirts from this site, really really top quality, thought you might like this one; https://thenorthcurve.com/products/lazio-classic-retro-football-t-shirt-football-top

    That is a shocker.

edit: I assumed this would be for those people who were doing Mon-Fri.  Oh no, everyone!!!  The Gerald Ratner of Holidays.  This will rebound massively I suspect.

If they cancelled all activities, shut the pool and restaurant, and just left people in lodges then I think everyone would say fair enough, but if you’ve travelled far to get there, what exactly can you do!  Shocking!

Under both Johnson’s there wasn’t any exciting football to cheer and Junior in particular complained about the lack of atmosphere inside AG - never considering that there was nothing on the pitch to get excited about.

You think you’re right, I think I’m right, let’s leave it at that

    Junior Bent complained?

They aren't great. How sound travels, how you hear noise or otherwise from there is somewhat dependent on where you are in the ground.

It really isn't- or shouldn't be if it is!

How sound travels plays a role although if things go well on the pitch things could improve although it's not always the case.

I was referring to other comments in this thread when I said there were no issues with acoustics the night of the Man Utd game

Not really it shows acoustics isn't a problem at ashton gate, and it's simply that us fans don't make enough atmosphere, mainly due to the dross we've been served up for a large number of years,

As the home record and performances improve so will the atmosphere

100% my point, if acoustics are bad then it wouldn’t matter how many people were in the ground, who the opposition was, whether it was on Sky etc etc etc you can’t pick or choose when the acoustics are bad.  The truth is, since the ground has been renovated we’ve not had much to cheer, that’s changing now and I bet with bigger crowds, better football, more to play for, the atmosphere will be great

That match was an exception. Full stadium, live on TV. Very different scenario from a Championship game

It’s not an exception, the acoustics are the acoustics, if people sing then the atmosphere is great, as it was that night, if people don’t sing then it’s not.  As others have said, people moaned about the Atyeo acoustics when it was first built, now it’s revered as some sort of acoustic masterpiece!

No it wouldn’t make any difference because of the acoustics in the Atyeo. The SS in particular isn’t suited in the same way and any sound created by S82 is dissipated upwards. My seat the Lansdown is almost diagonally to S82 and although we can hear them pretty well, louder sound comes my left where the away fans are. Even a relatively small number can make quite a din.

People in the Dolman or Lansdown don’t tend to get involved in singing/chanting. They never have in my experience.

I’m not sure I buy this acoustics reason for poor atmosphere.  At the Man Utd game the atmosphere was electric because the whole stadium was singing and the Atyeo was packed.
