Think there's bigger things going on at the moment, and clearly logistics are going to be very stretched around London.  Am fairly sure thay even UEFA aren't sufficiently dense to be insisting on forfeits, but who knows.

BTW, as massive numbers of people start going to London for the lying in state and funeral don't be surprised if police forces up and down the country send officers to help. All sorts of fixtures could be affected, not just those in London.

Last year we were near St Ives when the G7 thing was on and they had police from all over the country staying in make shift camps to help out, so can defo see resources being utilised.  FYI we also saw the 48 bus from Downend there, apparently they had a shortage of buses to bus the police around so even got them in from other places!

Norwich Weds, Burnley Sat, these games will show whether, or not, we can be viewed as realistic play-off contenders.

Personally think 3 pts from the 2 games would be an excellent return. Anything more and I'll really start to get carried away!

A lot will depend on how well our wing backs can offer defensive cover, as well as getting forward. Sunderland showed just how the holes behind our wing backs can be exploited.

Nice to be looking at the top end of the table, rather then the bottom even if we do get beat in both games.

I’ll take 2 draws right now

Well I wrongly assumed I would have come out top in a humour contest on here but actually having looked at his stats seems I was wrong, I got annoyed at his personal attack on me saying my posts were generally gloomy, my own stats for reactions say otherwise but having seen his stats I have to concede defeat, still say asking if the Queens funeral was on the red button was a little ill-judged but by the comments I have had perhaps I am missing the general mood on here.

The joke about the red button I took as more of a joke about OTIB and posts on match day threads, the Queen was just sub context

  4. Apologies if already posted but although a great gesture by Man City, as discussed earlier in this thread, there is a bigger impact of the cancellations at a time when most people can I’ll afford the impact and clubs shouldn’t have to cough up on behalf of a decision by the EFL which didn’t have to happen.  The EFL should compensate any club following suit8C28195D-84F0-4A11-A09C-07CF9EC24DB4.thumb.jpeg.62ea8460111023a978f3745d34154c45.jpeg

    Two things:

Risk. Football fans reputations are there for a reason, as are egg-chasers. We reap what we sow.

Resource: could be the A&S contingents start getting shipped out/deployed en masse from Sunday. It'll be in the plan. Maybe Eggers don't require all the horses football fans do

They’ve cancelled the games as a “mark of respect” not because they can’t guarantee security or anything like that so not sure it’s really relevant

In the greatest respect BrizzleRed, I imagine you're not on a zero hour contract on the poverty line. Minimum wage employees of Football clubs are unlikely to be paid for this weekend now, money they desperately need.

Same for local businesses, a lot rely on Footballl fans to keep their income going. I imagine local pubs, restaurants, burger vans etc stocked up this week expecting a double header. There will be a lot of booze and food going to waste, plus now staff will be told they aren't needed tonight.

All during a cost of living crisis.

100% correct, the decision by Prem and EFL is purely about saving face and playing safe in case they get some bad press.  There will be hundreds of pubs and burger vans etc getting  little or no revenue this weekend as a direct result of this decision, who may well have paid out for stock etc, but the EFL would rather “respect” the Queen who is no longer here than respect the individuals who run those businesses.

I am personally very sad at the passing of the Queen , for a multiple of reasons that are personal and not for a forum. However , outside of her state funeral, when the country can choose to pay their respect or not, cancelling sporting events this weekend seems to me to be against everything she would have wanted. When Phillip died he was quite clear whilst living that he did not want a big fuss. The Queen was equally stoic and pragmatic, and was very much of the stiff upper lip , carry on as normal. That is what I feel we should be doing.

I wonder if the Queen requested that when she dies, all of the BBC newsreaders have to talk in a slow somber voice all day and definitely need to look sad and can’t smile?

I explained why earlier in this thread……….:cool2:

I guess the question then in why do the police forces in other areas think it’s ok for other clubs but A&S don’t for us?  Do we have a completely unique set of circumstances which are non comparable or are A&S overzealous?

I’ve thought about whether football should go ahead a lot in the wake of the Queen’s passing. I’m very sad that she’s gone…. She was the one reassuring constant in public life in some crazy and divisive times and, while I’m not a huge royalist, I will find it strange without her.

I just don’t see what will be gained by cancelling sport though. Saturday, if it goes ahead, would be a fantastic opportunity for everyone to pay their respects in their own way. 2 minutes silence, national anthem, some pomp and ceremony…. It could be the perfect tribute and people would still get to go to football which we all love to do. What will be gained by everyone being forced to stay at home and miss out on doing what they love?

If everything in the UK shuts down this weekend as a mark of respect then fair enough, but why does football need to stop for a weekend but The Mall stays open, or the cinema stays open, or the pubs stay open etc etc it makes no sense whatsoever.

The reason away fans are located in the Atyeo is largely down to A&S police advice. From that end of AG it’s easy access to Ashton Rd post match and with certain away supporters, Cardiff, Swansea and Milwall with a heavy police presence it’s simple enough to keep them corralled inside the Atyeo for 15/20mins after the game, enough time for the home fans to exit AG

Its a shame tho because just a small number of away fans can much more noise as the acoustics in the Atyeo direct the sound out towards the pitch whereas any chants/songs our fans create from the corner of the SS dissipate upwards and that’s why we often hear the away fans chanting “is this a libtary?”

Is it advice I.e. the club could ignore it if they wanted, or do the police have the right to tell the club where they can put away fans and there is nothing we can do about it?

Following on from watching the NP press conference on YouTube I made the usual mistake of clicking ‘recommended for you’ videos. City v Swindon in “that” game back in the season when Swindon won promotion in November or whenever it was.

Anyway, the Atyeo was 3/4 full of City fans and it got me thinking about (again) about why we give such an advantage to away teams by giving up the whole stand when we really don’t need to. It was amazing to see the difference in atmosphere with City fans in the Atyeo and Swindon confined to a corner of it.

The club really should look at this, we need our own fans back in the Atyeo, you can easily have a divide between supporters, nearly every other team in the football league with a stadium our size has such.

    @JerrySLOplease investigate and report back

Especially as we don’t give the away team the whole front of the stand anyway, even if they could sell it out, meaning always a few thousand seats empty.  Better to give the away team just under the left half, one block is blocked off for segregation, then the other half for home fans.  You could always shift the segregation block along (either way) depending on expected demand or if FA cup where you need to give more away seats.

  12. At times like these it’s worth remembering the difference between 1 million and 1 billion.  A good example is using time:

    1 million seconds = 12 days

    1 billion seconds = 31 years

SL is still a billionaire and has ‘years’ of £££ left (not that he can spend it with us on players due to FFP!).

Not wanting to get too political but when you realise the COVID track and trace system (including app and testing etc) cost £37billion     over just 2 years, it does make you think where all that £££ went (as a comparison the new Elizabeth line took 23 years to build and still cost £12billion LESS than the track and trace at £25billion!).

  13. Saw this thread on Gas Chat re: Trevor Clarke.  I’ve been waiting for a thread before posting here, but TC and another Rovers player were hanging out at my gym a couple of weeks back, I was sat next to them, and could hear them discussing how TC could force a move out of the club.  Not sure what’s gone on there, but nice to hear there is trouble t’mill!

If he played another 21 seasons rather than the 15 I estimated, then you're looking at him beating Giggs' record for games played for a single team (Europe). That is 963 (see court records for verification). Would mean Scott playing until he's 40 though.

I think the improvements in sports science you could see a lot more players playing until their late 30’s if they stay serious injury free, you need to adapt your game potentially but possible if you have the desire to keep going

Yes I thought the same as I watched the highlights. Interestingly the regulations have changed this year. In previous years there was a requirement that "When away from home a Club shall play in a registered kit which is clearly distinguishable (shirt, shorts and socks) from those of their opponents. This requirement shall apply strictly in respect of shirts and socks. Where both Clubs request to play in the same, or similar, coloured shorts then an application to do so shall be made to the appointed match referee whose consent shall not be unreasonably withheld." Basically, you cannot wear the same coloured shorts unless the Referee allows it.

They also removed the guidance that states "Clubs are required to resolve any potential clash in advance of match day. Match Officials should ensure they find the playing kits of both teams acceptable."

The above wording is not present in the 2022/23 regulations. There seems to be nothing that explicitly prevents this.

However, the guidance in the Regulations is still that "When considering selection of colours of shirts / socks, Clubs should have regard to the guidance issued by the Football Association on helping those affected by colour blindness, a copy of which is available on the EFL SharePoint site accessed via the Club Portal system."

Honestly, I assumed we would play in the third kit yesterday, had I know we were going to wear the home kit I would have let the club know that was a bad idea. This is one that has slipped through the net. Sorry you had issues @Tinmans Love Child

Yeh no worries, thanks for the reply, seems a strange change in legislation really but there you go!
