If he stays at the level, it will be interesting to see if he can still score goals in the championship.

I certainly think he could, but I think he needs to settle down get his head screwed back on and build back the confidence.

If he stays in the Championship and goes 2 or 3 without netting, or has a glaring miss which we all know he's capable of (you'd never put your mortgage on him netting a sitter), I can only see the same spiral continuing.

That's why I think he needs to drop a level, get his sharpness back and then return to the Championship. Of course he could hit the ground running in the Championship, but I don't see any reason to expect him to.

Celtic may not actually be a bad move for him and I'd back him to get goals in the SPL. If he does well and wants to come back south of the border however I think he'd be priced out of a move by Celtic and as a result of their often stupidly unrealistic valuations.

Okay you think he should sign for Crewe or a league one side, however he is wanted by a SPL side, and 3 Championship sides. Beggars belief it's not as if he is chasing a big money move, these are clubs who've publicly declared interest in him.

He doesn't need to take any steps back when teams want him. I have no doubt had there been no interest in him, he would have happily took a wage cut and joined a league one side.

Here goes then.  This is a list of players that would be in my database.  I'd be happy if City sign any of these, but of course, they may well have a completely different list of targets.  Just so you know, this is a list of players whom myself and a close group of mates have either watched in person or whom we have very close links to (whether that be other players, managers, agents, fellow scouts, various other contacts within the game), so the usual dull drones of 'played football manager lately' do not apply (although I do anticipate this anyway, ha ha).  Suffice to say, each one of these has been researched by me or my scouting team, so they're not plucked out of the air.

Just to caveat this - I do not expect City to sign all, some, any or none of these, but this is my current database of what I think are in most cases realistic and feasible targets, whether permanent or loan.  Not all would 1st team starters immediately, some would start now, others maybe u21's for a while, some are a long-shot.  There are plenty more on my database who are currently not available in any possible way.

Conor McAleny - 22 - Everton - ST

Chris Wood - 23 - Leicester - ST

Duncan Watmore - 21 - Sunderland - ST/RW

Adam Armstrong - 18 - Newcastle - ST

So, of all those, if I had the choice I'd go for Lee Nicholls (GK), Alfie Mawson (CB), Curtis Nelson (CB), Lee Evans (CM), Jed Wallace (AM), Ryan Christie (AM), Dominic Samuel (ST), Tom Nicholls (ST).

And of the loan list any of Jordan Rossiter, Matt Grimes, Sam Gallagher, George Waring, Jordy Hiwula.

Harry, have you seen much of Tom Thorpe the Man Utd U21s captain who was released today?

Many Utd fans rated him more highly than McNair who got a lot of minutes for Utd this season and don't really understand the reason to release him.

He's injury prone. 22 yrs of age and has just a handful of league games under his belt from memory. Highly rated though as you say a lad whose who has played for England at all levels up to U21's.  Leicester are set to take a gamble on him apparently (who have many ex United lads). He wont be on City's radar.
