Joe Bryan - Signed for Millwall

Recommended Posts

Have him back in a heartbeat, play him infront of pring and we would be very strong down that side. Quality left foot, knows the club and a steady player, Pearson type of player imo. Crazy he now fits the experienced profile of a footballer, remember his debut vs Leicester like it was yesterday.

Now you're talking! With,  not instead of, makes sense and as someone else said on this thread that allows Mehmeti [our Maverick] to play in the No.10 role.

I feel as fans we often get stuck in the mindset of “but what does that mean for Pring?!”.

It means serious competition for places, which is what’s required to challenge at the top end of the division.

Exactly, you've only got to look at Burnley bringing Benson, Harwood-Bellis, Rodriguez and Cork off the bench on Tuesday.

I still don’t buy the bad attitude, downed tools stuff at the end.

Still think there was lots of factors, like moving back from Left Wing to Left Back to accommodate Ryan Kent, who left Bryan exposed all the time.

Shape changed too as a result, again leaving him and us exposed.

Magnússon-Bryan complimented each other very well, team as a whole felt less secure when we abandoned the 4 CBs, Brownhill-Smith-Pack-Bryan, Paterson-Reid. We lost a certain stability.

The club has changed massively since he left. We still play at Ashton Gate but that's about the only thing that's the same.

It was allegedly one of the things Pack said about not coming back.

“It’s not the Bristol City I left, it’s different people, etc”

He also allegedly said he didn’t want to come back and not be the player he was and tarnish his reputation from his spell here.

Tinnion, Murray, SL?

The way the club is run/operates is massively different, but there are a lot of people still knocking about.

I think primarily he'll be brought in as King's replacement. Could be ideally suited in his relative latter years to where King has played these last few games.

Main concern for me would be availability. 90 odd starts over the past 4/5 years isn't great.

Always remember JB playing CM at Forest, we were 1 down and Bakes and Flint won us the game
JB was absolute class that day - clever footballer, sure he could do a job there

Obligatory.

We’ve had 6 pages debating the merits of JB coming back, based on one post from @The hand of RO'D saying he’s heard of the possibility. Has anyone else got any facts to support this rumour?

Tbf the first couple of pages were that but if you go on the McCrorie thread there is comment from @Bcfcshags which give it a lot more credence

When I heard this rumour I asked someone who would be itk and he’s pretty much said it’s true.

True story about Joe.

Cant remember the year but the club had an event in the old shop prior to the pre-season trip to Botswana- the object was to sell the new replica kit and the incentive was that you could meet some of the players.

There was quite a few of the squad there including Joe. I took my lad to get his new kit but also suggested that he  took his old one and get it signed and I would get it framed.

The players were all happy to oblige and on the back it had 23 Bryan who was his favorite player.

When I approached Joe for a signature, I showed him the back of the shirt, his comment to my son was,

” you must have been the only one to have that”!

My lad was 14 and is no longer with us but it made his night.

Just to say all of the players and SC were a joy and very friendly.

Thanks @ScottishRed for your post about your son's meeting with Joe Bryan. A memory to treasure for ever.

I mentioned this idea to my brother at the weekend, if Pearson wants to keep pace out wide (ie Bryan, Bell, Sykes) then Mehmeti would be perfect down the middle with his trickery and scored plenty for Wycombe. Maybe Joe signing allows this too?

Yes and a improvement on Dasilva plenty of pace on the left that would be

Bryan has always been a left midfielder/left wing back. He is good at crossing and shooting, but no good at defending. He is too weak physically at heading and tackling.

It was Lee Johnson who played him as a specialist left back but he got found out defensively at Fulham. They conceded 100 goals twice with him in their team as a defender and relegated twice.

But him at left midfield with Pring behind him is a tasty prospect. We have eight attackers at the club and they are ALL right footed ( Wells Bell Mehmeti Cornick Weimann Conway Wilson Sykes) A talented left footed attacking midfielder would give us serious options to play 4-4-2. Bryan wide left with Pring bombing forward in front of him would be very difficult to stop.

Whilst I agree that he isn’t the strongest defender, I would argue that his Heading ability is actually very good.

Bryan is able to jump very high from a standing start position. This was utilised very well during our promotion campaign under Cotts.

It's not so much the physical stuff that I though was his weakness when he stepped up to the Prem, more that he lost concentration and players continually ran off him. You can get away with that a bit in the Championship but pretty much every mistake in the Prem is punished.

Completely agree with the general point though, would definitely have him back playing ahead of Pring ?

Ultimately it’s still a rumour!

Not a shred of any ‘evidence’ anywhere, not even the notoriously unreliable social media.

I’ll believe JB has rejoined us when it’s announced on the OS.
