Non League Thread 2023/24

Had a game to cover at London Colney yesterday morning so after, went to St Albans v Welling United at Clarence Park (feel sure someone on here is a Saints fan?).

Traditional type ground with a slope and food & drink outlets everywhere. Saints are chasing the playoffs in NLS and Welling are trying to escape the bottom four so the 1-1 draw yesterday was somewhat of a surprise.

More than 1,700 in the ground, decent number for a day that started bright enough but suffered heavy drizzle for most of the second half.

Isn`t David Noble St Albans manager now or am I getting my clubs mixed up?

Does it still have a tree inside the pitch wall?

Manor Farm battered playoff rivals Bemerton Heath 4-0 today.

Really good performance today, which weirdly was both harsh on Bemerton but also didn't flatter Farm.

2 early goals gave a good lead and so Farm were able to play without pressure after that.

3rd goal was an own goal, a header hit the crossbar and went in off the goalkeeper.

Yeah, I was there. A very enjoyable afternoon at The Creek.

Taunton Weston on Tuesday, not a chance that will go ahead imo. Have heard rumblings of Taunton potentially looking at using Weston’s ground to fulfill fixtures. 5-10 years ago it probably might’ve been doable at Weston’s pitch was absolutely immaculate, but certainly not now it’s in much poorer heavier state.

Unbelievable that Truro haven't gone to Torquay

Closer and Torquay need the ££

My mate Sam hasn't long taken over being groundsman at Weston, once it's wet it's had it but will be OK once it dries out

Exmouth come from behind to beat Bashley.

Now 2 points behind Paulton

Bashley are 3rd bottom with 2 games in hand on both and 7 clear of Paulton.

Paulton announced Richard Fey as new manager. Not gone down too well with a section of support as the last time he was in charge at Paulton he upset a lot of supporters and the senior players. Bit of a controversial appointment let's say.

Exmouth seem to be getting their act together and Paulton really need another couple of defenders in pronto to stand any chance.

Weston must’ve told them where to stick it….as Taunton are playing Saturdays game at Gloucester City!!

Hope for their sake that it’s a good ££ deal. Even the additional fuel costs for staff and team to get there will be more than unwelcome.

It’s Truro’s ‘home’ game as well. Only the 200 miles and 3 1/2 hour journey from where it should be played.

When was the last time that Truro City played in Truro?

Anecdotally, and I know it’s grassroots, I’ve not known a year like this for call offs for sometime. The Avon Youth League are allowing extension of the season and pitches that are playable are so unavailable we’re seeing sides from South Bristol trying to hire our 3G at Sodbury. It’s absolutely mental out there trying to get games on and Taunton is a microsm of that at a higher level

That relentless rain we had in December has killed everything. It seems all it needs is a bit of rain during the week to top it off and games are cancelled again.

Doesn’t help that it seems to rain every bloody Thursday which doesn’t leave much time to dry out before the weekend.

That’s even better. A club announcing that a team, that isn’t even them, is playing an away game hosting by a team not even in the same league or county.

I ******* love non league, it is pure class!!
